What is TAS/13? Data Security How Much Does It Cost? Reports and Data Availability

Within an office there are two major areas of threat to the Trustee's data: physical and employee maliciousness or dishonesty. The combination of Progress Software, TAS/13 and third party software provides solutions for each of these areas.

Access to the System is protected by password and optionally biometric identification (using finger prints). Depending on most operating systems is generally not enough. The pre-Windows 2000 Microsoft operating systems are particularly vulnerable. TAS/13 has its own password protection system that begins from entry to program access. To insure that the individuals can gain access to only programs that are part of their job responsibilities, there are four related access tables: users, user-groups, programs, and program-groups. The user table contains information about the login and password of each user. The programs table is a list of each program in the system. The program-groups table mirrors job descriptions in the office such as case maintenance clerk, disbursement clerk linking the job to the programs in the system. The user-groups table is the link between the user and the programs-group. A user may be a member of more than one group as can a program.

Although this may appear complicated, the most difficult part is designing workflow in the office and writing a formal job description with separation of duties. Then it is only necessary to match TAS/13 programs required for those duties. This system is flexible and secure. There are reports that list the programs associated with each group, the individuals associated with each group and the list of programs each individual has access to.
